The Extra-Ordinary Life

Many of us like the extraordinary life; the amazing and superb life. I do too. But do you know that the difference between the ordinary and extraordinary is just the word—extra? Not something big. I guess many of us can do that!

In Matthew 25:1-10, Jesus told the parable of Ten Virgins who were part of a bridal train. Five of these ladies were described as wise and the remaining five foolish. What was the difference? Just an extra! The wise ones carried extra oil for their lamp just in case the groom was delayed which was not uncommon in that culture, and that made all the difference.

And that leads to my question today: What can you do extra in your life today, even right now, that will make a lot of difference tomorrow? Not much, just an extra. Think about that

If you add just 30 minutes of brisk walking to your daily routine, you could burn about 150 more calories a day of stored fat which is exactly what you want to lose. Many of us easily spend 30 minutes a day on Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat. Imagine the accumulation of that in a month—4,500 calories. Wow!

But here’s actually the key: The wise ladies thought ahead, and that led to their extra preparation. Do you know that Jesus never forbids planning for tomorrow? What he rejects is worrying about tomorrow. Usually when people worry, they get so overwhelmed by a possible problem without proffering any solution. That’s exactly the opposite of planning. Planning also thinks of the same scenario but then seeks to find solution to it.

Friend, tomorrow may never come but what if it comes? How are you going to face it? For example, in the area of finance; What extra thing can you put away today that might accumulate for you tomorrow?  Surprisingly, extra has a way of adding up.
