Elijah said: “I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” 1 Kings 19:10
Last week, we looked at two issues from Elijah’s own mouth talking about being overzealous for God and the only one left. Today we shall look at the third point he made: “They are trying to kill me.”
How do you deal with your fear, whether real or imaginary? What do you do when you think everyone is against you? When it seems everyone in your office hates you; when friends reject you; when people are ganging up against you; What do you do?
Here’s the danger with fear: if you don’t deal with it, it will eventually come. If you don’t believe me, listen to Job, another fellow that went through so much pain:
For sighing has become my daily food; my groans pour out like water. What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me. I have no peace, no quietness; I have no rest, but only turmoil.” Job 3:24-26
You need to face your fear and deal with it. How do you know if something is real or not? You go and check it out! That’s the first thing to do with your fear. Face it. Confront it. If it’s a person, go ask them. If it’s a health scare, go see your doctor. You might be surprised at your finding. Don’t live on assumptions
The second thing is this: Don’t mistake a shadow for the reality. The shadow may present an exaggerated image of the real thing depending on where light is coming from. So change your position. Look at it from another angle. It may not be as big an issue as you think. Ask another person. Seek a second opinion. They may see things differently.
This is exactly what Elijah found out. He thought he was the only one left but God said He still got 7,000 left. Wow! That’s a big difference! That is what I called having an exaggerated image of oneself. The person or places you think will never make it without you will still be thriving long after you’re gone.
Friend, what you see as the end may actually be a bend. So, keep going. Keep moving. Don’t stop now. You’ve come far already. Refuse to let your fear stop you!
I see light at the end of your tunnel.
