Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time. Luke 4:13

Everything that has a beginning also has an ending. Nothing lasts forever. The enemy bombarded Jesus with everything he’s got but at the end of the day, he left him. This is very comforting.

Friend, a time comes when every temptation ends. A time comes when every struggle ceases. A time comes when you get a break from all harassment of the enemy. A time comes when pain ceases. I know this is hard to believe especially if you’re passing through one right now but that’s the truth.

This is telling me, one, that whatever I may be passing through now is not going to be forever. Hardship is not forever. Temptation is not forever. Second, it’s a matter of time. If we don’t give up, it will soon be over. It’s a matter of time. We just need to hold on some more. Somebody said: “The devil can fight hard but not forever.” I believe that is true.

One of the most afflicted persons in the Bible is the man by the name Job. The enemy came hard against him. He had everything to start with which made him the greatest man of his time but then, that sets him up for attack. Job lost everything in a day—livestock, servants, possessions, and to make it worse, all his children except one died. His own body was not spared either. He was afflicted with all sorts. But eventually, Job survived. The temptations ended.

However, which is my last point, it’s only for a time. The break from temptation is not forever. On this side of eternity, the struggle never really ends; we only take breaks. So, we need to be on the lookout because as long as you’re living, the enemy will keep checking you out. He’s always looking for another opportune time. The scripture gives a very clear warning:

Be alert and of sober mind.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8
