Christopher Ogunko-Irene was born in Lagos-Nigeria to a Christian family and an only son among seven sisters by his deceased parents. He was raised by his Grandmother. Attended secondary schools. Later got to the university where he obtained a bachelor’s and Master of Arts degrees in religion and philosophy with a specialization in Church history in 2002. Chris was called to the Anglican Church ministry and attended the Vinning College of Theology in Nigeria. He was ordained a priest in 2007 and served as parish priest and a University/College instructor till 2010, before moving to the United State of America. He served in Brooklyn New York as an Episcopal priest and volunteered as Chaplain at Woodhall hospital. Later in 2011, he was offered a pastoral position in the Anglican Church of Canada in Winnipeg as well as a Front Desk staff at the Salvation Army Booth Centre till 2014. Chris traveled to Nigeria in 2015 but was met with persecution by his home church for his sympathy/services to the LGBTQ in North America.
He returned to the US again in 2016 and continue his pastoral career in the Anglican Church in the diocese of Pennsylvania. He was offered a job at the office of the Sheriff in Montgomery County. He was later chosen for the Citizens Police Academy and graduated in 2019. Chris got admitted to study Doctor of ministry in Church leadership at the Wesley Seminary in Washington DC.
He moved back to Canada again in 2019 to join his family. He is married to Dr. Bola, a statistical analyst at Assiniboine community college in Brandon. He was appointed as Cathedral honorary priest in the Anglican Diocese of Brandon and volunteered in the Prairie Mountain Health as Chaplain. Chris also worked with the Addiction Foundation of Manitoba supporting the youth program. He is an Associate of the Canadian Association of Spiritual Care and the Canadian Multi-Faith Federation. He is a Rotary club international member. Chris loves making a difference in caring for the elderly. He loves football, traveling, teaching, and listening to Jazz music. His present position as Chaplain at Salvation Army Dinsdale Care home has been extremely exciting for him with many promising activities in the years ahead. Shalom 🙏
